Dismayed Dujon Sterling slams 'desperate' Rangers referee over TRIPLE penalty check
Dujon Sterling called out ropey ref Ricardo De Burgos Bengoetxea and claimed the Spaniard was ‘desperate’ to give Nice a penalty in their thumping by Rangers.
The Light Blues utility man took to social media to express his joy at the display in the 4-1 win in France - and his dismay at the performance from the man in the middle. He pointed to the spot early on to award the Ligue side a penalty but it wasn’t clear exactly for what.
And once called to the monitor, the La Liga man inspected THREE incidents, two potential handballs - John Souttar and Sterling - but neither were guilty and then he appeared to be looking at a possible foul by Connor Barron but that was also ruled out before the decision was overturned. And Sterling wrote on social media: “Good European performance from the boys, great atmosphere from fans. By the way, anyone know why the ref was desperate to give them a pen(alty)?
Bengoetxea is no stranger to Rangers controversy. The Spaniard was on VAR when the Light Blues played Borussia Dortmund at Ibrox in the second leg of their Europa League knockout tie and he invited the whistler on the night to the monitor after Ryan Kent had scored - with the goal ruled out for a foul by Alfredo Morelos in the build up.
