Diogo Dalot has confessed he wanted the No. 2 shirt upon his arrival at Manchester United - only to find it occupied by Victor Lindelof.
Dalot, 22, joined the Red Devils from Porto in a £19million transfer ahead of the 2018/19 season in a move which saw him link up with fellow Portuguese Jose Mourinho.
He has gone on to make 55 appearances for United in all competitions, each of which have come while donning the No. 20 jersey.
It is a shirt with a rich legacy at Old Trafford as it was previously worn by strikers Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Robin van Persie.
However, Dalot admits his first choice was the No. 2 strip - traditionally worn by a right-sided full-back - which was taken by central defender Lindelof in 2017.
He was asked what his favourite squad number is and what it is like to follow in Solskjaer and Van Persie's footsteps during a Q&A on United's official website.
Dalot responded: "Good questions. When I came to the club, I gave a straight answer to the reporter. I think he asked me the same question.
"My favourite is always the No. 2 which, at the time and now, it's being worn by Victor. So it was not available at the time and it's still not.
