Digne out, Konsa and Buendia remain patient - Aston Villa predicted XI vs Arsenal
Aston Villa will be without Lucas Digne for this weekend's fixture against Arsenal. Head coach Steven Gerrard is, however, hopeful of having Douglas Luiz and Calum Chambers available.
Digne suffered a hamstring strain just eight minutes into Villa's 2-1 defeat at West Ham and looks set to be out for three weeks. As for Douglas Luiz and Chambers, the pair have both been stitched up after taking whacks to the mouth and ear respectively.
Looking ahead to this weekend and Gerrard will have some key decisions to make with regards to his starting line-up. Emi Martinez will once again be in goal with Matty Cash at right-back. The boss will then need to decide to go with Chambers against his former club or bring back Ezri Konsa.
Gerrard, 41, was critical of Chambers for allowing Andriy Yarmolenko to swivel and score the opener on Sunday but, on the whole, Chambers did put in a brave showing. The 27-year-old has been great value in recent weeks and could have that bit between his teeth against his former employers. Tyrone Mings will be Villa's left-sided centre-back while, at left-back, Ashley Young will get the nod.
In midfield for Villa, Gerrard is expected to name the same trio of John McGinn, Douglas Luiz and Jacob Ramsey. Morgan Sanson is the only other genuine option to come into Villa's engine room.
Philippe Coutinho will look to continue his fine form at Villa Park knowing three of his four goals - and his three assists - have all come in B6. Emi Buendia is, though, pushing for a recall but Danny Ings and Ollie Watkins remain favourites to keep their places in attack and just ahead of Coutinho.
