“Didn’t expect the season to go quite like it” – Tom Lawrence reveals thoughts on Derby County campaign

Derby County may have been condemned to Championship relegation this season but the Rams would have been much higher up the pyramid had they not been docked points – and Tom Lawrence has admitted to the club’s official website that he has ‘enjoyed’ the season and being captain.

This season in fact, the former Man United man has produced his best goal contribution numbers to date. In 37 league games, he has managed 11 goals so far – the highest tally in his career so far. Add in five assists and it takes the total to 16 in 37 for the forward.

Lawrence has been with the Rams now for five seasons including this one and, at 28-years-old, is now leading the club from the frontline as their captain.

He said: “When the gaffer asked me to the be the captain, I didn’t expect the season to go quite like it has but I’ve enjoyed it
