Didier Drogba praises Sam Kerr’s stunning goal for Chelsea Women

Sam Kerr was the star of the show as Chelsea won their third successive Women’s Super League title at the weekend.

The Australian was named player of the match as she scored two stunning goals during her side’s 4-2 victory against Manchester United.

Her second goal was particularly outrageous – with her back to goal, Kerr controlled the ball on her chest, turned, and volleyed it into the back of the net.

Chelsea fans were quick to point out the similarities between a goal scored by Didier Drogba. A legend at the club, the striker hit the back of the net 104 times in 254 appearances for The Blues.

His goal against Everton in 2006 is one of his most famous. Like Kerr, Drogba controlled the ball on his chest, before turning to smash it into the net. Unlike Kerr, the Ivorian let the ball bounce before hitting it on the half-volley.

Kerr shared a video comparing the two goals on her Instagram, and received a reply from Drogba himself.
