Despite defeat to Brazil, we still believe in Super Falcons — Enoh
Sports Minister, John Owen Enoh, says he is confident the Super Falcons can still turn the table around and qualify from the group despite losing 0-1 to Brazil in their opening group match of the Paris 2024 Olympics on Thursday.
The Minister’s verdict came, just as Brazil goalkeeper Lorena says the Super Falcons were a very difficult team to play.According to Enoh, the defeat to Brazil was just a temporary setback for the Super Falcons, but it is not the end of road in the Olympics.
“Before this match, the coach told us that this present Super Falcons squad is better than the team he took to the World Cup, and we all saw it against Brazil. I am very optimistic the Super Falcons will rise to the occasion in their next two matches against Spain and Japan.”
Meanwhile, Brazil goalie, Lorena, did not hide her happiness after their 1-0 victory against the Super Falcons on Thursday. She was out of the last World Cup after suffering a strain in the anterior cruciate ligament of her left knee months before the opening of the competition.
“Unfortunately I ended up missing a great competition in 2023 and I’m very happy to be back, very happy to be able to help the team,” Lorena said.
“Nigeria was a very difficult opponent and we deserved the victory. We went out playing and achieved what we wanted. There were some substitutions and whoever came in showed that the group is united,” Lorena added.
