Deshaun Watson: Decision reached over Cleveland Browns QB's suspension

Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson has been handed a 6-game suspension to start the 2022 NFL season.

A verdict has been reached in the case of Deshaun Watson against the NFL as judge Sue L Robinson announced that the Cleveland Browns quarterback will be missing for the team’s first six games of the NFL season, although there will be no financial penalty.

The 26-year-old quarterback was under investigation from the NFL over 24 acts of sexual misconduct that he has been accused of committing whilst with his former team, the Houston Texans. He was not indicted by a criminal court over the allegations but did face a number of civil suits against him from his accusers, a large chunk of which were settled out of court in July, with some further ones settled this past weekend.

However news emerged this morning that the judge has given her decision and that Watson will now need to wait until Week 7 when they travel to face their division rival in the Baltimore Ravens.

Former federal judge Sue L. Robinson has found that Deshaun Watson violated the personal conduct policy and has suspended him six games, per source.

Even though the punishment has been laid out, that doesn’t mean that everything is all settled and it marks the end of the matter. The NFL have until Wednesday in which to appeal the decision and make it possibly longer.

There were reports back in June that the NFL were pushing for an indefinite suspension, something that they have done before with certain players, so it would not be a surprise to see them go back and try to get the suspension increased before the season starts.
