Derry GAA rule out Rory Gallagher returning as manager

Derry GAA have confirmed that Rory Gallagher will not be reappointed as their senior football manager for next season.

Gallagher resigned in May after his former wife Nicola made allegations of domestic abuse in a social media post.

Gallagher subsequently issued a statement through his solicitor saying the allegations against him had been "investigated and dealt with by the relevant authorities".

Interim manager Ciarán Meenagh, who guided the Oak Leaf County to the All-Ireland semi-final, recently told the county board that he would not be seeking the job for the 2024 season.

Meenagh's decision led to speculation that Gallagher was being considered for a return to the position.

However Derry GAA confirmed to RTÉ Sport that the prospect had been completely ruled out.

On Sunday, Ulster GAA confirmed that they had temporarily debarred Gallagher "without prejudice, from the GAA until the Ulster GAA Safeguarding Panel conclude their work."

The move came following reports that the Fermanagh native had recently taken some training sessions with clubs in the province.
