Derby County player ratings vs Hertha Berlin as Mendez-Laing, McGoldrick, Bird and Knight impress
Derby County made it two wins out of two in pre-season as the impressive Nathaniel Mendez-Laing scored the goal to beat Hertha Berlin 1-0 at Pride Park.
The winger struck his first goal of pre-season late in the first half after David McGoldrick had seen a shot strike the Berlin upright.
McGoldrick was instrumental in the build-up to the goal as he was handed his first start of the summer along with James Chester, Conor Hourihane and James Collins.
Did not have a shot to save in the first half as well protected by his defence. Much of his work was routine and he did that with a minimum of fuss. 7
Played as a forward last week and right-back this week. Was then moved up front which underlines his versatility, but had a fine game. Hit the post with a terrific free-kick. 8
Produced a class block to stop Maolida's shot in the first half. Just reads the game so well which is what experience gives you. 7
he former Aston Villa defender slotted in seamlessly in the heart of the defence and showcased why he was one of the club's top targets. 7
Can see why Brighton rate him so highly. A crossfield pass of 60 yards drew a fine ovation from the fans in the first half. Looks a very handy signing. 8
Derby fans are going to love watching the former Sheffield Wednesday winger. Scored a well-taken goal, but his work rate defensively was also impressive. Manager's dream. 8
Had a shot in the first half that fizzed past the upright and had a solid game in the middle of the pitch. Linked up well on occasion with McGoldrick and enjoyed himself. 8
One moment in the first half stood out as he played a lovely pass in behind the full-back for Mendez-Laing. A Rolls Royce of a midfielder and possesses a lovely left foot. 7
