Derby County legend issues rallying cry after survival hopes dampened

Former Derby County winger Alan Hinton has urged the Championship side’s fanbase to stick together following their 1-0 defeat to Cardiff City on Tuesday evening, taking to Twitter to express his thoughts.

Uche Ikpeazu’s winner in the Welsh capital was a controversial one – and a real hammer blow to the Rams who would have seen this game as the perfect opportunity to get back on track after consecutive defeats against Millwall and Luton Town.

Instead, they continued their losing run and continue to find themselves eight points adrift of safety, with all three of their main relegation rivals having games in hand over them.

Both Peterborough and Barnsley have not just one, but two games in hand over the East Midlands outfit with the former needing to pick up just one point to consign Wayne Rooney’s men to the bottom of the division again.

Previously climbing to 22nd place after their victory against Peterborough United last month, they now find themselves in real danger of being cut adrift from survival fight if they fail to turn around their fortunes in the next few fixtures.

With 11 league matches still to go though, Derby legend Hinton has called for unity ahead of what promises to be a huge couple of months for the club, both on and off the pitch at Pride Park.

He posted: “Seems to be a lot of negatives re Derby County survival.

“I will always support our famous club no matter what the circumstances. Been good to me and our great fans.

“Let’s stay strong together.”
