Christian Eriksen made a dream return to the international stage just 287 days after he suffered a cardiac arrest while playing for Denmark during Euro 2020.

The 30-year-old came on as a half-time substitute in a friendly against the Netherlands on Saturday night at the Johan Cruijff Arena and made an instant impact for his side, scoring with his first touch of the game.

And it’s safe to say the goal was a beauty.

At 3-1 down, the Brentford striker arrived in the penalty area at the right time to get on the end of an impressive cross from Andreas Skov Olsen.

Unmarked inside the box, Eriksen took full opportunity of the space in front of him and rifled the ball into the top-left corner of the net.

The goal gave his side a glimmer of hope in the match and the Danes continued to press hard on their hosts during the second half.

Yet, their efforts were to no avail, with Spurs midfielder Steven Bergwijn netting his second strike of the match soon after, restoring a two-goal cushion for the home side and ultimately giving the Dutchmen a 4-2 win.

Despite the loss, it was the dream return to international duty for Eriksen, who might now also feature in Denmark’s game against Serbia on Tuesday evening.
