Delay in paying Dundalk players by new owner after whirlwind week

Dundalk's players will not be paid this week with new owner John Temple claiming to need time to make the necessary arrangements, resulting in a delay.

The Lilywhites were taken over by a consortium headed by Temple on Tuesday, avoiding bankruptcy and the prospect of the club folding by a matter of hours.

The players previously suffered a delay in being paid before their defeat to St Patrick’s Athletic on 5 September. That was remedied when the FAI assisted now former owner Brian Ainscough with the advance of prize money.

This week’s pay will not arrive in time but the new owner has committed to all salaries up until 30 November.

The club’s first-team squad had offered to defer wages when Dundalk were seeking investment.

RTÉ Sport understands Temple has given assurances it is simply a delay and the wages will be paid.

The Oriel Park outfit face Sligo Rovers on Saturday in the Premier Division, seeking a positive result in their attempt to avoid relegation to the First Division.
