Decathlon to move to bigger store in Bolton - and offer equipment to keep residents moving

Decathlon is relocating its Bolton store from the town centre to Middlebrook, next to the University of Bolton Stadium. The move, the company says, will ‘inject millions into the local economy’.

The new store will open on Thursday, April 14 — with the existing site shutting down on Friday, April 8, to facilitate the move. The new space will cover 1,900sqm (20,451sq ft), and will feature a bigger selection of products and employ 20 percent more staff.

“This is a really exciting moment for us, and one that has been in the pipeline for quite a while,” Ross Farrington, who heads up the company’s operations in the North of England, said. “Our new store will offer an unrivalled shopping experience for customers, with a broader range of sports products and services in a more accessible format.

“The location of the Middlebook store is particularly important as we’re sitting on the M61 motorway connecting us to major urban areas such as Bolton, Preston and of course Manchester. Decathlon’s mission is to help make sport more accessible to the UK, and this store marks the next step in that journey for us.”

Among the new services at the store will be a workshop focused on servicing and repairing bikes, kayaks, and fitness equipment to help keep residents moving.

There will be products for 70 different sports, including some from the firm’s Second Life brand. Products in that range are ones which have been repaired by Decathlon, offered at a discount, for the benefit of shoppers and the planet.
