Dean Smith’s Aston Villa mad son makes big announcement as ‘dream’ comes true

Jamie Smith, the son of former Aston Villa manager Dean Smith, has announced that he has signed his first professional contract as he reaches his dream of becoming a professional footballer.

The 24-year-old can play in central defence, at full-back and in central midfield and started his career at Walsall. After his release from the Saddlers, he moved around clubs before travelling to America to study at North Carolina University.

After playing for Limestone Saints and Asheville City over in the USA, Smith has now revealed that he has signed his first professional contract Greenville Triumph. The South Carolina-based side play in USL1, the third tier in American football.

The Aston Villa fan announced the news on social media. “Delighted to announce I have signed my first professional contract with @GVLTriumph,” he wrote on Twitter. “Big thanks to my family & friends for their support in achieving this.

“Becoming a pro has been a dream since I was young and I’m excited for the journey and hard work ahead at this great club. An extended thanks to @PackMensSoccer @LimestoneSaints and @AshevilleCitySC , without them I would not have had this opportunity & I’m very grateful for all they have done for me on & off the field. Lastly, I want to thank @PSCSoccer for their support in the negotiation process.”

Following the departure of Smith as manager of Villa, Smith junior expressed his pride at his father’s achievements. “What a journey, so proud of what you achieved at our club!” He wrote.

The defender caught the eye late last year with his free-kicks when featuring for university side North Carolina State. He will now looking to create more headlines in the US as he settles into his new club.
