Dean Saunders slams ‘imposter’ owners when asked about Elon Musk taking over Manchester United

Dean Saunders unleashed a rant about ‘imposter’ owners when asked for his views on the rumours linking Elon Musk to a takeover of Manchester United.

The tech-billionaire – who is best known for owning Twitter, SpaceX and being the CEO and product architect of Tesla – is interested in buying United, according to the Daily Mail, after the Glazer family put the club on the market in November.

Musk, one of the richest people in the world, who frequently makes headlines for his views on politics and technology, has previously admitted that if he was to buy any sports team it would be United and claims he supported them as a child.

But Musk is not the only person interested in purchasing the club with a Qatari group also linked as well as Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Britain’s richest man, who has publicly declared his interest.

There are expected to be two further ‘serious’ bids for the club – one from Saudi Arabia and another from America.

United are valued at around £3.9bn but the Glazer family are hoping to raise as much as £6bn through a full sale.

Quizzed about Musk’s alleged interest in United, former striker Saunders told talkSPORT: ‘I think money is ruining football, it’s getting ridiculous.

‘Do they really care about the club? I’m not sure they do. Years ago it would be a fan. The richest fan in the town
