Dean Saunders: 'If You Asked Ronaldo, ‘Who’s The Worst Midfielders You’ve Ever Played With', Fred and McTominay Won’t Be Far Off'
The five-time Ballon d'Or winner, who has failed to score in United's last five games - his worst drought since 2010 - was a second-half substitute in the club's disappointing 1-1 draw against Burnley.
Despite his dip in form of late, Ronaldo remains United's top goalscorer this season with 14 goals in all competitions.
And former Wales international Saunders believes people are wrong to criticise the former Real Madrid forward.
The 57-year-old pundit has instead criticised Ronaldo's teammates in a scathing assessment of United, who have a "bang-average back four", according to Saunders.
He also claims there are some players at United who are "not up to the standard" required.
Speaking to talkSPORT after Tuesday night's game at Turf Moor, Saunders said: "At one point they should've been 3-0 up, they were running away with it, then the minute they get a bit of adversity they seem to go backwards and crumble.
"If you asked Ronaldo, 'Who's the worst midfield players you've ever played with in your career?' Fred and [Scott] McTominay won't be far off."
Saunders added: "People are starting to point the finger at Ronaldo, but he's playing with a few dummies, some of them are not on the same wavelength as him.
"Every time the ball was shifted around the box and they were piling the pressure on Burnley, the ball was going to a really good player, to Pogba, to Rashford, to Lingard, Ronaldo, they've got ammunition.
"They've got a bang-average back four and no engine room in the middle of the pitch, the players they've got in there are not up to the standard".
