Dead with no names: Identifying the missing migrants of the Mediterranean

In Algeciras, in the south of Spain, our team met Martin Zamorra, who is known as "the migrants' undertaker". For the past 20 years, he's taken the corpses of migrants who perished while crossing the Mediterranean Sea back to their families.

Meanwhile, across from the coast of Morocco, in the southern city of Cadiz, Maria Lopez works as a forensic pathologist. The police call her when a body is found on the beach. Every year, Maria and her team try to identify hundreds of dead migrants.

As for José Pablo Baraybar, who works for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), he is a world specialist in tracking down migrants who have disappeared without a trace. He and his colleagues try to determine if the missing migrants have managed to reach Europe safely.
