David Tennant 'favourite' for new TV role, and it's a classic

Since its launch in 1997, Midsomer Murders has been a hit with viewers and now enjoys a worldwide audience thanks to its availability on major streaming services.

The beloved series has featured two DCI Barnabys at the helm over its remarkable 27-year history.

John Nettles was the first to bring the character to life, serving as the show's cornerstone from the inaugural episode until his departure in 2011. Neil Dudgeon succeeded him, portraying DCI John Barnaby, the cousin of Tom Barnaby, and has been at the forefront of the investigations since.

Lately, there's been a flurry of online chatter about Neil potentially leaving the role after a 13-year tenure, with whispers of a new actor stepping into the iconic part.

According to Sportscasting.com, David Tennant, renowned for his portrayal in Doctor Who, is tipped as the favourite to take up the mantle of DCI Barnaby, with the Express citing odds of 4/1.

Sportscasting spokesman Andy Newton weighed in on the rumours about who might next lead the Midsomer investigations, saying: "The next DCI Barnaby odds are a tight affair with many big names being thrown around including former Dr Who David Tennant, who would certainly be a big enough star to fill."

"Trying to solve a murder in Midsomer has been a tricky business since 1997, and trying to work out who will be the next DCI Barnaby looks equally as hard if the betting is to be believed."
