David Moyes offers his verdict on Reading FC with West Ham prediction after pre-season friendly

David Moyes has said that he felt Reading provided a "decent test" for West Ham as the two sides played out a 1-1 draw in pre-season.

Royals came from behind to earn a draw at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, with Yakou Meite on target for Paul Ince's side after Croatian forward Nikola Vlasic had given the Hammers the lead in Berkshire. It was a good showing from Reading against a team packed full of international players, with the likes of Declan Rice, Jarrod Bowen and Vladimir Coufal involved for the Premier League side.

And Moyes was pleased with what he saw from his players as he offered his verdict on the game, with the West Ham boss satisfied with the workout against Championship opponents in hot conditions, while giving a nod to the quality of his side's opponents.

"It was a decent test for us," he said, speaking after the game. "It didn't have a great intensity, the game, but I think the temperatures would explain that a little bit, but it was good. We got a chance to get international players back and get some of them 45 minutes and some of them slightly longer.

"For an opening game I'm pleased with it, pleased with the fitness more than anything. We’ve got a lot I want to work on as far as football goes, but I can’t complain with how we’ve looked today."

And the Hammers boss was full of praise for summer signing Nayef Aguerd, who made his first appearance for West Ham since joining the club in a deal worth around £30million from French club Rennes. The defender started the game and played the first 63 minutes on a hot afternoon in Berkshire, before Moyes made a raft of changes to bring on a mixture of young players and experienced professionals.
