David de Gea sends Lisandro Martinez message after Man United star benched again

David de Gea has sent a complimentary message to former Manchester United teammate Lisandro Martinez in a social media post. The duo played for United during the 2022/23 season after Martinez joined the club from Ajax and before de Gea quit Old Trafford upon the end of his contract.

Martinez impressed in his first year at United, helping them win the Carabao Cup and playing 45 matches across all competitions. His second season proved a little more challenging as he battled with injuries and fitness concerns, though the Argentine still managed to win the FA Cup back in June.

He had started in each of United's first six Premier League matches this season before being dropped to the bench for the trip to Aston Villa before the international break. Martinez was an unused substitute during Argentina's 1-1 draw with Venezuela before coming off the bench against Bolivia on Wednesday.

After that game, Martinez posted two images on Instagram, with the first a focused snap and the second a more relaxed photo. De Gea was among those to leave a comment, with the former United goalkeeper putting, as translated into English: "Good looking," followed by a smiling face with sunglasses emoji.

United have made a dismal start to this season, winning just three of their opening 10 matches.
