David Beckham responds after James Ward-Prowse admits dream to meet Man Utd legend

David Beckham has responded to James Ward-Prowse after the Southampton star admitted it is his dream to one day meet the Manchester United legend.

Both are renowned for their free-kick prowess, while the Saints captain netted a sublime effort against Brighton on Saturday to make it 14 in total in the Premier League. Beckham still holds the record for the most direct free-kick goals in the competition at 18.

And Ward-Prowse has insisted that he is determined to break the England icon's record while at the age of 27, he has plenty of time to do so - especially considering the absolute quality he has. He also admitted that he dreams of meeting Beckham, who he called his hero growing up.

"My main motivation is to meet my hero who I loved when I was growing up," he said. "If I do get that record, hopefully he'll reach out - but there's a long way to go just yet."

And Beckham has reacted to the England international's pleas, the footballing legend admitted he was looking forward to meeting Ward-Prowse - saying: "Looking forward to it mate. Another great one today, four more to go."

Ward-Prowse has now scored four free-kicks this season - one away from totalling Beckham and Laurent Robert's record of most in one campaign at five. And it is not the first time that the Saints star has wanted to pick the former Real Madrid and LA Galaxy hero's brain.
