Dating app that only works once a week to host massive ‘secret singles’ party in Manchester

Thursday, the dating app that only works once a week, is hosting one of its ‘secret singles’ parties in Manchester on, you guessed it, Thursday. The massive singles event will take place on the terrace at Ducie Street Warehouse on the edge of the city’s Northern Quarter, and will welcome nearly 500 people.

Changing up the stale dating scene, Thursday was launched last year to help singles combat “dating fatigue”. Billed as a singles member’s club that bridges the gap between online dating and offline experiences, Thursday only operates once a week to cut through the back-and-forth slog of messages and to encourage people to be more spontaneous with dating.

Every other day, the app lies dormant before coming alive at the stroke of midnight on Thursday, showing potential daters nearby. Users then have 24 hours to match, chat, and set up a meeting, usually at one of the app's ‘secret’, member-only events.

This week, it’s Manchester’s turn and Ducie Street Warehouse, which even hosts weddings should you get off to a flying start. The event on Thursday is not only the first in the city, but also the biggest dating event to date.

The exclusive dating event will be soundtracked with Sweet Vibrations Radio who will be kicking off the party from 5pm, supplying the ideal backdrop for mingling. Singletons can expect the best in Neo-Soul, alternative R&B and Hip-Hop tunes.

Thursday first went live in May 2021 and has been downloaded 750,000 times since. The app was launched by George Rawlings from his bedroom with the aim of making dating less complicated and tiresome.

Thursday’s Manchester event takes place on Thursday, July 28 from 7pm until
