Darren Moore's big Barry Bannan claim as midfielder steals the show against Cambridge

Sheffield Wednesday boss Darren Moore says there is "nobody better" in League One than Barry Bannan when it comes to midfielders with attacking attributes.

The 32-year-old midfielder scored Wednesday's second goal in a devastating day in-front of goal for the Owls in which they beat Cambridge United 6-0 at Hillsborough. Lloyd Jones' sixth-minute own-goal started the flow of goals before Bannan's excellent strike from 25 yards doubled the home side's lead.

A hat-trick from Saido Berahino followed whilst George Byers also got in on the act to score his fourth league goal of the season. The result lifts Wednesday to within a point of the League One play-offs as fellow promotion rivals Ipswich Town, Portsmouth and Wycombe Wanderers all drew 0-0.

Bannan has been a key component of the Owls' squad once again this season, playing all ninety minutes in all but three league matches this season and contributing seven goals and eight assists. That form resulted in U's boss Mark Bonner describing Bannan as "the best player in the league" and Moore weighed into the debate after the game.

He told YorkshireLive: "Barry is in good form. There is probably nobody better at understanding the game and see what is require. There is nobody better working in tight spaces as him.

"I thought he took his goal very well. He took aim, took precision and executed it very very well and he's in good form at the moment and long may that continue for us. He's got a group of players who are on the same page as him and are technically gifted like him and that allows him to get into space.
