Darnell McIntosh refuses to put blame on Hull FC half backs after Catalans defeat

Darnell McIntosh didn’t shy away from Hull FC’s disappointment following their defeat to Catalans, but insisted how the side need to stick together as they battle through another tough period. The Black and Whites were well beaten by the French side on Saturday evening, who scored six tries to comfortably run away for a 36-8 win.

Hull’s half backs came under the most criticism following another lacklustre performance. They struggled to create anything and that meant when Hull got an opportunity with good ball, it all came to no avail. It was frustrating to watch, but McIntosh isn’t one for pointing the blame at individuals, instead highlighting the strength of Catalans, and the need for Hull to be collectively better.

“Disappointed, but we have no one else to be disappointed in other than ourselves,” McIntosh told Hull Live when asked about Hull’s display in Perpignan. “They (Catalans) were really good. They limited the errors and when they played off the cuff, they nailed it, but for our standards, you can talk about the heat, but that’s not good enough from us.

“I know certain people in certain positions are going to get a bit of flack but I’ll never point to them. At the end of the day we’re human and they’re human and we want to put on our best. We’re trying, but when you’re getting that stick, confidence can take a hit.

“I think that was the case here because they can do it, when they do it they’re heroes and then a few weeks goes by and they’re enemy number one. We’ll stick by them, we’ll never burn anyone, I think it’s a case of looking at ourselves first and then moving forward as a group.”
