Dapo Afolayan assessment as Ian Evatt outlines where Bolton forward's key next step is needed

Ian Evatt says Bolton Wanderers are aiming to make last season's top scorer Dapo Afolayan a more well-rounded player and adjust parts of his game as he vowed the attacker will make a big impact this season.

Afolayan was Bolton's player of the season last campaign and was the club's top scorer with 14 goals in all competitions. He has found the back of the net twice so far this season.

The 25-year-old has more recently been coming off the bench for the Whites and has not started a League One game since mid-August. He scored in his last appearance in the competition, off the bench to net the winner versus Peterborough United.

Afolayan has had some of his best form for Wanderers drifting in from the left flank and firing home from long range in a 4-3-3 system. Now Wanderers are operating with a back three, Afolayan is typically either in a strike partnership or in the number 10 role.

Evatt believes it is now about adjusting Afolayan's game with the formation Wanderers are operating with. They know full well what he is capable of from his favoured position on the left flank.

But he believes the stream of long range finishes is not a sustainable one and that work needs to be done to get him closer to goal and in and around the box to provide him with consistent opportunities. Evatt has praised Afolayan's character and has backed him to have a 'huge impact' this campaign, but advocated patience for the time being with the busy fixture period certain to provide chances.
