Danny Cowley reveals Portsmouth’s transfer preparations

Hampshire Live

The South Coast outfit are currently battling to get promoted back to the Sky Bet Championship from League One and were busy in the January window as they brought in a host of new faces to help them achieve their objective.

However the preparation for the future never stops at Fratton Park, with Cowley revealing that both he and and his staff are already eyeing up new additions by attending live games.

Detailing the approach that Pompey are taking recently, Cowley stated the following:

“We were all out at League Two and National League games on Tuesday and for us to get out and keep watching, do the hard yards as it were.

“The rules of recruitment, you have to kiss a few frogs to find your prince.”

Pompey are clearly keen to reduce the overall age of their squad and it appears likely that there could be a lot of departures over the summer, with many players being set to see their contracts expire at Fratton Park.

Cowley’s side are currently nine points off the play-offs in 11th place.

The Verdict

It is good to see that Portsmouth are already looking to the future and it shows that they aren’t taking anything for granted.

They could be in the Championship or League One, but the target is still the same – bring in players that have potential and can add value.

That is the method that will help them to become more sustainable over time and it is a recruitment approach that a lot of clubs have taken on in more recent times.

It’ll certainly be interesting to see who comes in on the South Coast over the summer.
