Danielle Hill and Darragh Greene advance to semis in Rome

Danielle Hill and Darragh Greene are through to their respective semi-finals in 50m backstroke and 200m backstroke at the World Swimming Championships in Rome.

Larne competitor Hill clocked a time of 28.54 in heat three for a fifth-place finish, a swim that saw her in 13th overall and through to the this evening's semis at 5.57pm (Irish time).

Greene, swimming in the final heat of the 200m backstroke, finished third in a time of 2:12.53 - seventh overall. The Longford native will be back in the pool at 6.04pm (Irish time). In the same event Athlone's Eoin Corby is a second reserve for the semi-final after his time of 2:14.75.

Brendan Hyland was the best of the Irish competitors in the 100m butterfly with a time of 53.36. Shane Ryan (54.29) and Max McCusker (54.36) also took part.

In the women's 200m freestyle, Victoria Catterson came home seventh in her heat in a time of 2:02.56.
