Daniel Wiffen sets new Irish record in Stockholm
Daniel Wiffen has set a new Irish record in the 400m freestyle as he claimed gold in the Stockholm Open this afternoon.
The Down-born Wiffen, who represented Ireland at the Tokyo Olympics, posted a time of 3:44.35.
In doing so, he broke his own previous national record by two seconds, set in the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
It's the fastest time over the distance this year, with Germany's Lukas Martens in the lead with 3:43.32.
Wiffen took gold in Sweden, finishing ahead of team-mate Felix Aubock (3:44.71) of Austria and Lithuania's Danas Rapsys (3:46.56).
He is back in the pool in the 1500m freestyle tomorrow.
