Daniel Ricciardo underlines desire to stay in F1 for 2023

Daniel Ricciardo says he has firm intentions of trying to remain in F1, but will not think about his situation too much until after the triple-header.

News broke just before the Belgian Grand Prix weekend that, as expected, Ricciardo and McLaren would be ending their relationship a year early and concluding things at the end of this campaign, with it expected – Contract Recognition Board decision pending – that Oscar Piastri will succeed him as Lando Norris’ team-mate.

The speculation of Ricciardo’s next drive for 2023 has already begun, then, with the likes of Alpine and Haas linked with a swoop, but the Aussie has said he will not be rushing his decision, and that he plans to think about it more once the current triple-header is done and dusted.

Speaking over the course of the first leg of said triple-header; the Belgian Grand Prix, Ricciardo reiterated his aim to remain on the F1 grid for ’23 but that that was as far as he had thought about the topic:

“If it’s anything it’s F1 [where he wants to be next year.]

“That’s the only place I see myself racing in the near future. So that’s something I’m sure of at least what I want.

“But I want to see. This weekend’s been a bit of a wave and we’re into a triple-header so I feel like the next three weeks are going to be relentless. Not necessarily on this topic, but just as a schedule.

“So, I want to get these three under my belt and then see how I feel.

“I’m not interested in making any quick decisions or certainly nothing emotional.

“We’ll see how it goes but certainly the objective, if I’m behind a race wheel, is a Formula 1 car for sure.”
