Dani Olmo ‘tricked’ Bayern Munich’s Lucas Hernandez in German Super Cup
Bayern Munich won the 2022-23 German Super Cup in thrilling fashion on Saturday evening.
The Bundesliga giants secured a 5-3 victory over RB Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena.
Bayern were 3-0 up at half-time thanks to goals from Jamal Musiala, Sadio Mane and Benjamin Pavard.
Serge Gnabry also got on the scoresheet in the second half but the home side battled back to make it 4-3 by the 89th minute, setting up a grandstand finish.
Dani Olmo netted RB Leipzig’s third goal of the night and the Spanish midfielder resorted to some inspired s**thousery in stoppage-time in a cheeky attempt to gain his team an advantage.
Bayern left-back Alphonso Davies went off with an injury, much to the annoyance of the home crowd, who thought the Canadian was time-wasting.
RB Leipzig gave the ball back to their opponents, but Olmo carefully left it on the line.
Lucas Hernandez picked up the ball, under the impression Olmo had put it out of play, only for the assistant referee to wave his flag for handball.
The look on Hernandez’s face said it all. It suddenly dawned on the French defender that he’d just been tricked as RB Leipzig were awarded a free-kick.
Watch the incident here:
I’ve just seen one of the smartest (and unsportsmanlike) plays I’ve ever seen. Davies goes down so Leipzig gives it back… only Olmo leaves it on the line. When it’s picked up a handball is called and Leipzig get a dangerous FK while down 1
