Dagenham & Redbridge 3-0 Wrexham: Dragons fall short in title charge and now face play-off battle

Wrexham saw their National League title aspirations dashed at Victoria Road meaning they now face a home play off tie against either Notts County or Grimsby Town. Stockport County clinched the title with a win against Halifax Town.

Phil Parkinson's men struggled to get going in East London and the Daggers were deserved victors in a game where the Reds just get into their usual rhythm. 1,500 Wrexham fans made the trip south and were exceptional in their backing of their team.

Wrexham will now face Bromley at Wembley in the FA Trophy final before taking on either Notts County or Grimsby Town in the play off semi final at the Racecourse. Phil Parkinson will be hoping for a much better showing than they provided at Victoria Road as the Reds toiled against the impressive Daggers.

The first half started relatively well for Wrexham, who had a couple of early forays forward with Paul Mullin unlucky not to open the scoring from 12 yards but his shot was saved by Elliot Justham in the Daggers goal. Dagenham then had a half chance through Brandon Comley but Dibble saved well.

Both sides were offering an attacking threat but it was Dagenham who grew into it as the game went on with Myles Weston looking threatening from a wide position. After the promising start from the Dragons, the hosts would dominate the remainder of the half.

The Daggers created a string of half chances and a combination of wasteful finishing and Christian Dibble saves kept the scores level. The sides went in level at half time and Phil Parkinson had plenty to ponder as his side were largely second best throughout the first period.
