Dad jailed after stabbing burglar to death when he spotted a break-in on Ring doorbell app

A dad who brutally stabbed a burglar to death after spotting him breaking into his home on his Ring doorbell has been jailed. Karl Townsend attacked Jordan Brophy with such ferocity that two shards of a broken blade were left lodged in his skull.

The 31-year-old suffered multiple stab wounds and died following the incident in Halewood, Merseyside, last October. Townsend was cleared of Mr Brophy's murder by a jury of six men and six women this week, the Liverpool ECHO reports.

However, he was convicted of manslaughter by a majority of 10 to two. Jailing Townsend for 19 years at Liverpool Crown Court today (Friday), Judge Andrew Menary described his actions as "quite dreadful offending" and the sentence "must reflect that".
