Curwin Bosch remains incumbent as Sharks seek flyhalf equanimity

As it stands, it's all in Curwin Bosch's hands to keep himself as the number one Sharks flyhalf.

The Springbok faced heavy competition for his place last year when Boeta Chamberlain displaced him at the start of the United Rugby Championship (URC).

But he's returned to claim his place and will start his third straight game at flyhalf when the Sharks take on Zebre at Kings Park on Saturday.

In all two previous games, against Scarlets at home and Benneton away, Bosch helped the team to bonus-point wins and even scooped an opportunistic try for himself last weekend versus Scarlets.

His kicking, however, was a quite seesaw for someone with the deadliest boot in Durban.

"It was a bit of an inconsistent performance for me," said Everitt about Bosch's performance against Scarlets.

"The goal-kicking … we know he can kick for poles. He kicked two touchline conversions, so he did well in that department, apart from missing a 55m kick and two that he'd normally get.

"Generally, he did show some desire from a counter-attack perspective. That line-break he had in the second half, he was unlucky that Tito couldn't hold onto the ball there. It could have led to a certain try.

"He's certainly showing signs of improvement from an attack point of view."

With Argentine international Tito Bonilla also waiting in the wings, Bosch is under pressure again to glue the jersey to his back with another commanding performance.

Everitt has used the Currie Cup to good effect to gauge some players' readiness and form for promotion to URC level.
