CT City, Chiefs share the spoils

Kaizer Chiefs and Cape Town City played to a dogged but entertaining 0-0 draw in their DSTV Premiership clash at the DHL Stadium on Tuesday.

It was a tight contest throughout, with both teams enjoying several good moments and playing some enterprising football without finding the goals the match deserved.

The first chance of the evening fell to Cape Town City after Taariq Fielies played a great pass through to Jaedin Rhodes, who spotted Brandon Peterson marginally off his line but couldn't find the target with his attempted lob.

Phathutshedzo Nange fired the first shot in anger for Chiefs when he tried his luck from long range but it was always flying over the bar.

City continued to press, with Terrence Mashego and Mduduzi Mdantsane each trying their luck but finding Petersen up to the task in the Chiefs goal.

Only a superb tackle from Craig Martin prevented Keagan Dolly from letting loose from a good goal-scoring position, as Chiefs' best chance of the match was snuffed out.

And it was Dolly again who forced the City defence into action on the half-hour mark after unleashing a powerful left-footed strike.

A few minutes before half-time, City forward Mogamat May got the better of Daniel Cardoso but could not do the same to Peterson, who kept the scores level with a superb save.

Njabulo Blom had an opportunity to snatch the lead for Chiefs just before the break after finding himself in the right place at the right time on the edge of the box, but he couldn't keep his shot down and it stayed scoreless.

Dolley continued to look like Chiefs' best chance of a goal after the break, though City also had their moments through players like May, who frequently looked like a handful, so the stalemate continued.
