Crystal Palace: Intriguing Wilfried Zaha update emerges at Selhurst Park

Crystal Palace put potential suitors off talisman Wilfried Zaha with the price tag they put on him this summer, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 29-year-old’s future was surrounded in speculation once again throughout the previous window, but he ended up staying put at Selhurst Park past Thursday’s 11 pm deadline.

Zaha has been linked with a plethora of Premier League and top European clubs in recent years and it was no different this time around, with Chelsea, Arsenal and AS Roma all reportedly keen to snap him up.

However, it was perhaps more surprising than ever to see the Ivory Coast international remain in south London given he has entered the final year of his current contract.

Ed Aarons of The Guardian claimed that Zaha was ‘one of several players who has been discussed’ by the Chelsea hierarchy in the final stages of the market as they looked to replace Romelu Lukaku.

And Miguel Delaney of The Independent backed up those claims, stating that west London outfit ‘revived their interest’ in the versatile attacker, although were met with resistance by Palace.

Jones previously informed GiveMeSport that the Eagles valued Zaha between £25 million and £30m, and it seems as though that valuation proved to be too big a stumbling block for Chelsea and co.

It was a relatively quiet window for Palace, who only spent transfer fees on two players in the shape of Cheick Doucoure and Chris Richards.

And Jones has informed GiveMeSport that the capital club were able to keep hold of their star player as they ‘wanted a lot more’ than £25m for him.
