Crystal Palace can be 'excited' about 'scary' £72m trio

Crystal Palace attacking trio Wilfried Zaha, Michael Olise and Conor Gallagher have the ability to ‘scare any defence’, according to journalist Tom Barclay.

The Eagles have been a much-improved outfit in front of goal under the tutelage of manager Patrick Vieira throughout the current campaign following four years of pragmatism during Roy Hodgson’s reign.

In 2020/21, Palace scored 41 goals in their 38 Premier League games, the 14th-lowest total in the division.

However, following the appointment of Vieira as Hodgson’s successor in the summer, the south London outfit have had the shackles taken off them, finding the back of the net on 39 occasions after 29 top-flight fixtures.

And Palace’s turnaround in fortunes in the final third of the pitch has largely been down to the form of three players, in particular.

Talisman Zaha – who is valued at £36m by Transfermarkt – has been outstanding throughout this season, registering 10 goals and two assists in 27 appearances.

But the Ivory Coast international has been boosted by the arrivals of Gallagher, who is valued at £19.8m, and Olise, who is valued at £16.2m.

Gallagher has chipped in with 13 goal contributions in all competitions from an attacking midfielder role, while Olise has also chipped in with 12 after predominantly being selected on the right-wing.

Palace’s current goal tally is the highest in the bottom half of the Premier League table and has helped fire them 12 points above the relegation zone.

And Barclay believes the capital club’s attacking options gives them ‘a lot to be excited about’ for the remainder of the season and potentially beyond.
