Crypto scam suspect arrested in bed as cyber crime cops raid home
A suspected crypto-currency fraudster was given a rude awakening when police launched an early morning raid on his home.
The 59-year-old was arrested in bed as police carried out a warrant in Alderley Edge this morning. He's suspected of being involved in a number of investment fraud scams involving cryptocurrency and is being questioned on suspicion of fraud, money laundering and theft of a motor vehicle.
Cheshire police have released footage of the raid. In it officers from the cyber crime and economic crime units can be seen raiding a flat. To shouts of 'Police, stay where you are', several officers burst through the front door.
The suspect can then be seen in bed where he is told to 'put his hands' before being led away in handcuffs. A number of items, including a computer and a mobile phone, were also seized during the raid.
Det Sgt David MacFarlane said: "The warrant conducted this morning in Alderley Edge is the culmination of an ongoing investigation into a cryptocurrency investment scam which we believe has been taking place. This and the subsequent arrest shows how seriously we take fraud offences and we are committed to identifying individuals who decide to take advantage of people in this way.
"I hope that this ongoing investigation provides reassurance to members of the public and acts as a warning to anyone planning to commit such offences in the future."
