Croke Park will host Leinster football semi-finals

The Leinster Senior Football Championship semi-finals will be played at Croke Park, it was announced this morning.

Kildare will face Westmeath and Meath take on Dublin in the last four ties. Both matches take place on Sunday 15 May.

Earlier this year Leinster GAA chairman Pat Teehan raised the possibility of taking games to stadium outside of the 82,000 capacity of headquarters.

Speaking in March, he said: "We're looking at the strong possibility we won’t have Dublin in Croke Park for the Leinster semi-final.

"We didn’t make a decision on it at the time of the draw because semi-final pairings won’t be known until later in the summer, but the likelihood is that we’ll consider that move.

"It would be better to have 20,000 in Portlaoise or Tullamore or Nowlan Park than 30,000 in Croke Park."

Dublin conceded just four points in a 23-point win away to Wexford on Saturday in the quarter-finals.

They will now have the majority of the support with the clash with Meath taking place at 4pm.

In 2018, Kildare famously refused to play a qualifier in the stadium, forcing the GAA into moving their game to Newbridge, but they will be back in the stadium later this month.

The final will also take place at Croke Park on Saturday 28 May.
