Critics not impressed with Chocobo GP ahead of release
Chocobo GP has been attracting a vast amount of the gaming community ahead of its official launch next week – but it hasn’t gone down well with some.
The all-new virtual kart racing game for the Nintendo Switch is due to be released on 10th March and excitement had been building for what appeared to be a genuine competitor for the hugely successful Mario Kart series that the Japanese developing giants also have under their umbrella.
Gamers are sent on a journey with the emphasis strongly set on multiplayer game modes, with tournaments available to compete in regularly so that players can climb their way to the top.
On top of this, there are also powerups you can collect in the form of Magicites to ‘take out the completion’, in what is a follow-up to Chocobo Racing launched in 1999 and the continuation of the spin-off of the Final Fantasy franchise.

A lot of comparisons were to Mario Kart in their final reviews of the game, with various publishers getting a first-hand experience on Chocobo GP and what players can expect.
The previous game received fair low scores as it is and the sequel followed up in similar fashion.
At the time of writing, Metacritic have provided a Metascore of just 65 from 25 critic reviews. While many were pleasantly surprised by Chocobo GP’s pleasant charm and levels of enjoyment, but a lack of imagination and uniqueness from Square Enix appears to be the main complaints from various publishers.
