Cristiano Ronaldo sends message amid uncertain Manchester United future

Cristiano Ronaldo has broken his fortnight-long silence on social media, with barely a week to run until the end of the transfer window.

The Manchester United superstar has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford all summer, but time is running out for him to secure a switch before the transfer window slams shut on September 1. But rumours over Ronaldo's future don't appear to be distracting the forward as he posted a short message to his 102 million followers on Twitter on Thursday evening.

Alongside a picture of the forward taking a practice shot in training was the caption: "Keep working and focused." The message is the first to be posted by the Portuguese on the social networking site in more than two weeks and his first interaction since being dropped for last week's win over Liverpool.

The 2-1 win saw manager Erik ten Hag register his first victory with Ronaldo reduced to a bit-part role as he came off the bench after 86 minutes at Old Trafford.

It remains to be seen whether he will win back his starting place for Saturday's trip to Southampton as United attempt to register back-to-back wins for the first time since back in February. Ronaldo has been linked with a move away from United before next week's transfer deadline after he and his trusted agent, Jorge Mendes, indicated their desire to leave ahead of the club's pre-season tour in early July.

The 37-year-old, who only returned to United a year ago, is desperate to play Champions League football with United restricted to the second-tier Europa League this season.
