Cristiano Ronaldo’s stance on Chelsea transfer after requesting to leave Manchester United

Cristiano Ronaldo is not keen on a move to Chelsea and would rather move abroad if he gets his wish of leaving Manchester United.

The 37-year-old has informed United that he would like to leave the club if a suitable offer comes in, with Ronaldo keen to play in the Champions League in what is the twilight of his career.

The Portugal captain retains huge respect for United and he stopped short of handing in a transfer request, preferring instead to urge the club to consider offers for him.

One of the most interested parties is Chelsea, with co-owner Todd Boehly holding talks with Jorge Mendes about Ronaldo’s availability this week.

Such a move would be controversial as though United supporters are largely sympathetic to Ronaldo’s wishes, joining a Premier League rival would threaten his legacy.

But the Independent claim Ronaldo is similarly unwilling and would rather not join a direct rival.

That will be a relief for United supporters but it remains to be seen whether the club would share Ronaldo’s viewpoint if a suitable offer did arrive for the forward.

While United have stated the striker is not for sale, Erik ten Hag is said to be open to letting him leave if he can find a replacement.
