Cristiano Ronaldo must remind critics why Manchester United signed him vs Atletico Madrid
Dilemma in defence
Ralf Rangnick is expected to make changes in defence for United's match against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.
The German made the brave decision to name Raphael Varane on the bench at Elland Road on Sunday afternoon, starting Victor Lindelof alongside Harry Maguire instead — and the Swedish centre-back emphatically vindicated that faith.
Lindelof was excellent against Leeds and that gives Rangnick a pleasant headache over whether to bring Varane back into the starting line up. Varane has won the Champions League four times and it would be a surprise not to see him start.
While it would be justified for Lindelof to feel aggrieved at getting dropped, Aaron Wan-Bissaka could have no such complaints. Diogo Dalot's proactiveness will likely be needed against a deep-lying Diego Simeone side.
First visit to Wanda
This match will be United's first visit to Atletico's Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.
It has been Atletico's home since the 2017/18 season and the stunning arena has a capacity of close to 70,000. The total cost of the Wanda Metropolitano is believed to be in the region of £220million and it's certainly impressive.
The atmosphere was always electric at Atletico's previous home, the Vicente Calderon, and it should be loud again on Wednesday night at the Wanda Metropolitano, as it previously has been on Champions League nights.
Ronaldo and Atletico Madrid
Cristiano Ronaldo has looked like a player in the autumn of his career in recent weeks but you wouldn't bet against him scoring here.
The forward has played against Atletico more times than any other opponent in his club career (35) and he's scored an incredible 25 across those appearances, including two hat-tricks in the knockout rounds of the
