Cristiano Ronaldo: Man Utd star's iconic interview after beating Middlesbrough in 06/07 FA Cup

Manchester United welcome Middlesbrough to Old Trafford on Friday night in the fifth-round of the FA Cup.

It’s a fixture that the home side will be the big favourites to win, especially as Boro now reside in the Championship.

Back in 2007, both teams were in the Premier League and they came face-to-face in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

United eventually triumphed 1-0 in the replay at Old Trafford after an entertaining 2-2 draw at the Riverside.

And in the meeting on United’s home turf, Cristiano Ronaldo was the man who struck the decisive blow from the penalty spot.

The Portuguese superstar won the spot kick in question as well after being upended by Jonathan Woodgate in the box.

It was a slightly soft one, though, and as a result of that, Sky Sports reporter Geoff Shreeves fired a number of questions about the incident at Ronaldo in a post-match interview.

Bit much, right?

Ronaldo handled it all incredibly well and also provided an iconic answer to another one of Shreeves’ seemingly never-ending questions.

When asked by the reporter “Why is it always the case with you?” the five-time Ballon d’Or winner simply replied: “Maybe someone doesn’t like me because I’m too good.”

Well played, Cristiano. He may have been just 22 years of age at the time, but the Portugal international was already brimming with confidence and didn’t look fazed at any point during the interview.

It’s scary to think that 14 years later he’s back at United and still scoring goals in big games.

A true legend of the sport.
