Cristiano Ronaldo has just been shown what Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag thinks of him

If you didn't think Cristiano Ronaldo's time at Manchester United was coming to an end before the Manchester derby, you probably do now.

As Fred came on to replace Jadon Sancho in the 70th minute on Sunday afternoon - becoming United's fifth and final substitution of the match - Ronaldo didn't try and hide his anger. He was, understandably given the circumstances, furious that Erik ten Hag had made all of his permitted substitutes and still opted to leave him on the bench.

With the Reds trailing 5-1 at the time, the match, and any hope of a United comeback, was over. And still, with the United boss making the decision to leave the Portuguese on the bench, it felt like a significant moment. Ronaldo has started just three matches all season, so it was no surprise that he wasn't named in the starting line-up against City, but with the Reds desperate for a goal, his services still weren't required.

The 188th Manchester derby was, in all honesty, bonkers. The scoreline certainly flattered the Reds, and City definitely took their foot off the gas, but United at least salvaged some credit towards the end of the clash.

Erling Haaland and Phil Foden - two players who have received consistent backing from their manager - both scored hat-tricks for the reigning champions. Pep Guardiola's men were scintillating throughout and the Reds struggled to lay a glove on them. Antony's stunning strike and Anthony Martial's brace at least gave United fans something to smile about, but all in all, it was a disappointing afternoon.
