Cristiano Ronaldo gives Manchester United teammate Diogo Dalot new nickname

Cristiano Ronaldo has given his Manchester United teammate Diogo Dalot a new nickname.

Ahead of Thursday night's defeat to Real Sociedad in the Europa League, the 37-year-old commented on the full-back's Instagram post 'piteusinho'. This roughly translates to 'little pittie' and while it is not totally clear what this means in English, it is understood to be referring to Dalot as a 'little Pitbull'.

The 23-year-old's new nickname certainly translates well to his recent performances for United. Dalot has made the right-back position his own this season with the defender becoming instrumental to the Reds over the last few matches.

Erik ten Hag was unable to sign a right-back this summer which has led to him keeping Aaron Wan-Bissaka at the club as a back-up to Dalot. Ronaldo meanwhile has struggled for first-team minutes since Ten Hag took charge.

United's Portuguese star has featured in all of the matches so far this campaign but starts have been difficult to come by. Ronaldo has started only one of the Premier League fixtures this season, a crushing 4-0 defeat at Brentford.

He also played a full 90 minutes on Thursday night however his performance was not one we have come to expect from the forward for the past decade. United are not in action this weekend as a mark of respect to Her Majesty The Queen however it has been confirmed that they will return on Thursday when they travel to Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League.
