Cristiano Ronaldo fitness latest for Tottenham as Manchester United make striker enquiry

Here are your Manchester United evening headlines for Friday, March 11:

Manchester United have been dealt a boost ahead of this weekend's clash with Antonio Conte's side, with Cristiano Ronaldo set to return for the Reds in their Premier League fixture with Tottenham on Saturday. The 37-year-old missed the 4-1 defeat to Manchester City last week with a hip flexor injury but resumed full training on Thursday.

There are still issues in defence as Luke Shaw is still unavailable as he is still testing positive for Covid-19, while in midfield Scott McTominay is a doubt with a calf problem. Edinson Cavani is also set to return after missing the last six games with a groin problem and Raphael Varane should be available.

"He resumed for training yesterday," Ralf Rangnick said on Ronaldo. Spurs will be without a number of players as Ryan Sessegnon, Oliver Skipp and Japhet Tanganga

United have already made their first move ahead of the summer transfer window after making initial enquiries about signing Lyon forward Moussa Dembele. It comes with Rangnick advising United to look at signing a younger striker at the end of the season.

The Manchester Evening News understands there is some interest from United over a possible deal, although the 25-year-old is just one of a number of players currently being looked at.

A source close to the Lyon player reiterated that Dembele would only be viewed as a squad player if he were to move to Old Trafford this summer and that he'd likely be viewed as a replacement for the departing Cavani, rather than as a regular starter.
