With three straight losses to India, Australia and now Afghanistan, the Babar Azam-led Pakistan cricket team is facing the music at the ODI Cricket World Cup 2023. The side was one of the pre-tournament favourites, but the side's display at the Cricket World Cup has not been up to the mark. In fact, they are now at a risk of getting knocked out of the Cricket World Cup in the league stage itself. Apart from the team's show in the batting and bowling departments, Babar Azam's captaincy is also under focus.

Counted as among the top batters of the current generation, Babar Azam's captaincy has been questioned by some former Pakistan cricket team stars too. After Pakistan's loss against Afghanistan, Babar Azam was asked whether he was feeling extra burden due to captaincy.

"Your emotions are telling us that you are sad just like the whole nation is sad. What message would you give to the crores [millions] of people in Pakistan who are following this team? The question from this team is incomplete, do they have any expectations? And the additional burden of the captaincy, is it affecting your individual performance? What do you think about the team's incomplete performance and the captain's extra weight?" a reporter asked Babar Azam.

The Pakistan cricket team replied: "You never know. It's cricket. Anything can happen. We will try to play our best cricket till the end. There are a lot of matches left, we will try to win all the matches. We will try to overcome our mistakes.
