Cricket domestic fixtures clear path for easy January hosting of SA20

The South African cricketing domestic calendar that was released on Wednesday has made it all too clear where the SA20 will sit in SA's cricket menu: Prime viewing in January.

The 2022/23 domestic fixtures will be kicked off by the seven division two sides and the South Africa Under-19 team, who will be locked in a T20 Knockout tournament that starts on 30 September and ends on 9 October.

On 17 October, the eight first division sides begin the T20 Challenge in Potchefstroom where they'll play each other once at the JB Marks Oval.

That tournament final is scheduled for 5 November, from where three rounds of the Four-Day Competition will be shovelled into three weeks in November.

The season will then quickly shift into the One-Day Cup that starts on 2 December and ends on the 29th, with the whole of January being free of domestic cricket.

The Four-Day Series resumes on 9 February and is scheduled to end on 23 March, with the division two Four-Day Series starting on 20 October, with four rounds taking place before the December/January break.

Like the division one section, division two will resume on 9 February, but will end on 12 March, with their One-Day Cup also shovelled into the December period from 3-28 December.

The Proteas are in Australia for three Tests over the December period, something that allowed for the domestic limited over engagements to occupy the whole last month of the year.

The Women's provincial One-Day Cup, which will see teams split into a division one of six teams and division two of eight teams split into two pools, will start on 24 September and end on 1 April, with the T20 tournament starting on 25 September and ending on 2 April.
