Coventry City talking points as injuries take toll but Panzo starts with a bang

Coventry City remain unbeaten in pre-season after recording another friendly win, this time 2-0 at Oxford United.

Jonathan Panzo led the way with a goal double on his debut after getting the nod following his arrival from Nottingham Forest on a season-long loan. And the Sky Blues could have had more, but opposition goalkeeper Simon Eastwood managed to keep the score down.

The City defence looked bright and dealt with any dangers from the home side, and while Ben Wilson wasn't really tested he made a brilliant save to deny the hosts as City kept a clean sheet for the second consecutive game.

It is evident more signings are needed ahead of the new season. That will allow Robins to have more options and he will be able to rotate players.

At Oxford, the likes of Martyn Waghorn, Kyle McFadzean and Ben Sheaf were absent, and when that is the case the squad does not have sufficient back-up options.

Robins stated the importance to strengthen his squad. "We are still recruiting," he said.

"I'd like to bring in one or two players, I think we still need to strengthen. We've been getting injuries, there might have been games where we've gone we need a few more bodies in. The ones we're looking at are the ones you'd expect, but we'll wait and see and go from there. Hopefully we can get more in before the kick-off."

Robins was forced to his first substitution after captain Liam Kelly suffered a hamstring injury inside the opening 10 minutes.

"Liam has done his hamstring - he overstretched for something and he felt his hamstring go," the manager told Coventry Live. "He will go for a scan and we will see what the extent of it is."
