Coronavirus infection rates down 40 per cent across Greater Manchester
Coronavirus infection rates have fallen by 40 percent across the region according to latest figures. The number of recorded cases has also continued to drop in all ten Greater Manchester boroughs.
Trafford continues to have the highest coronavirus infection rate, with a rate of 399.9 cases per 100,000 people in the week ending April 9. The lowest infection rate is in Manchester, where the rate is 251.0 cases per 100,000 people.
In Greater Manchester as a whole, the infection rate is now 311.6 cases per 100,000 population. The infection rate in the region is lower than the national average, which is 420.7 cases per 100,000 people.

A total of 8,837 people tested positive for coronavirus across Greater Manchester in the week which ended on April 9. The Greater Manchester weekly total has decreased by 5822 cases compared to the previous week, which means the infection rate was down 40 per cent in the last week.
Hospital admissions
In the week ending on April 03, a total of 801 patients were admitted to Greater Manchester NHS hospitals with Covid-19. That is 75 more than the week before, a rise of 10 per cent.
On Tuesday April 05, there were 14 Mechanical Ventilation (MV) beds occupied by Covid patients in Greater Manchester NHS hospitals. That is one fewer occupied bed than a week earlier, according to the latest figures.
Deaths
In the week ending April 9, a total of 46 people died within 28 days of a positive Covid test across Greater Manchester, which is 0 the same as the week before. Since the start of the pandemic, there have been a total of 974,617 confirmed coronavirus cases in Greater Manchester and a total of 9,051 deaths.
